Benefits of Acupuncture for Veterans
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine-based approach that has been shown to effectively treat a variety of emotional, mental, and physical conditions. For veterans, acupuncture can offer relief from:
- Chronic Pain: Acupuncture stimulates the body’s natural painkillers and anti-inflammatory responses, providing relief from conditions such as back pain, migraines, and arthritis.
- Mental Health: Acupuncture can help alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions by promoting relaxation and reducing stress.
- Sleep Disorders: Many veterans struggle with sleep issues, and acupuncture can help improve sleep quality by promoting relaxation and reducing insomnia.
- Overall Well-being: Acupuncture enhances the immune system, supports physical health, and improves emotional balance, leading to a better quality of life.
Getting Approval for VA Community Care
To receive acupuncture treatment through the VA Community Care program, veterans need to follow these steps:
- Schedule an appointment with your VA Primary Care Provider: Speak with VA provider about your desire to get acupuncture treatments. If they feel it could be beneficial, they will submit a request for approval to the VA.
- Scheduling: Once the request is approved and we at Point of Renewal Integrated Health receive the authorization from the VA, we will contact you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Maria.
- Authorization: After scheduling, the VA will send you an authorization letter with details about the approved provider, the type of care you can receive, and the duration of the authorization.
- Community Care Visit: Attend your appointment at Point of Renewal Integrated Health. The VA will send relevant medical records to Dr. Maria, but you may need to bring copies of any diagnostic imaging (CT or MRI) if requested.
